The suggestions have been put forth on a volunteer basis, in good faith and in the best interests of the computer. Ive also downloaded InstallAssistant.pkg from some random source but the command found in the support article is suggesting I need 'Install macOS Ventura.app'. IMHO - There has been sufficient advise offered from more than one Contributor, for the User ( you ) to make an informed and educated choice what the next course of action is required for this computer. ' The only Mac I have to download Ventura from the App Store is an M1 MacBook so its not downloading the correct Intel version of the OS. ![]() This applies to macOS 10.14 Mojave and above.ĥA - Formatting for macOS 10.13 High Sierra and below requires HFS Journaled with the GUID Partition MapĦ - Once that is done > backup out of Disk Utilities and choose install macOS.ħ - Follow the prompts and it may automatically reboot several time.Ĩ - Upon a final reboot - Setup Assist will present with the newer version of macOS.ĩ - In this specific case - it Suggested Not to use Setup Assist to Migrate everything backġ0 - That would effectively Negate the pristine installation by bringing back the issues that existed when the TM Backup was made > Only works on Intel Based Apple Computer > Disk Utilities > View > View ALL attached Drives.Ĥ - Choose the Upper Most Drive ( not the volumes indented and list below ).ĥ - The drive normally is called Apple Media or Apple SSD - that is the drive to Erase and format as APFS with the GUID Partition Map. This method will WIPE ALL Data and there is No Recovery - Period. The updates appear to be include important security fixes for actively exploited issues, and no new features are included. The next Radical Step and it is radical > Apple has released a series of software updates for various devices, including iOS 16.6.1 for iPhone, MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 for Mac, and iPadOS 16.6.1 for iPad. For whatever reason, Apple abandoned the "KISS philosophy" and made it more difficult for Monterey (although I was able to recently follow those steps above to do a clean, fresh installation of V12.6.1 of Monterey onto my Mac Mini (was having a weird problem, as I lost the start-up chime, and no matter what I did, could not get it back got it back with that clean installation of V12.6.1).At this point and if the user cares to disregard many of the previous suggestions - so be it. That is the process I had always used up to and including Big Sur. Remove the Monterey version of Onyx, and install the Ventura version of Onyx. After 3 is complete, restart the applicable Mac from the internal SSD (and thus into Ventura).ĥ. As is usual, (will be offered this via the installation process) migrate my apps, settings, etc. Navigate to the Ventura installation file, launch it, and then install Ventura onto that internal SSD.ģ. Use Disk Utility on the backup to Erase and Format the internal SSD for the machine.Ģ. When that is done, I would boot the applicable machine from it's backup, and then do the following:ġ. Then, I will use SuperDuper! to make a bootable backup on an external SSD for both machines. Download current and previous versions of Apples iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, audioOS and macOS firmware and receive notifications when new firmwares are released. Next (as I normally do), I would run Onyx, then Tech Tool Pro to "clean up" the Monterey-based system on each machine. ![]() Next, I would make a copy of that installation file on a USB stick, and then use it to copy that installer file to my MacBook Air. Hopefully that will not be needed.īesides for my testing, when I eventually move from Monterey to Ventura (probably with V13.3 of Ventura, assuming just about all "serious" issues are resolved), I will download the full Ventura installer from the App Store to my Mac Mini, then stop the installation process at that point. ![]() I remember with Monterey that I needed to create a bootable USB device, and then follow that process. I then plan on booting the Mini, at times, from that external SSD, so that I can test Ventura with all my apps. Will the same process work for Ventura, with the installation onto that external 1 TB Samsung SSD? Assuming that is the case, I should then be able to migrate all my needed "stuff" from the Mini. This might seem like a basic question, and in prior years (and prior versions of the OS up to and including Big Sur), it was rather straight forward: double click on the Installer File, choose the device for installation, and away it would go. Once OS 13.1 is released, I plan on downloading the entire installer from the App Store to the Mac Mini. I just purchased a Samsung T7 Shield 1 TB Portable SSD, received it last night, and used Disk Utility to Erase and Format the entire device as APFS, and Scheme Guid Partition Map. I am currently using Monterey on both of my Macs (V12.6.1 on my 2020 M1 Mac Mini, and V12.6 on my 2021 M1 MacBook Air).
